You’ve certainly seen the trendy, lightweight leather earrings that have everyone wondering where they can get theirs, right? It’s so easy to make your own leather earrings with SVG files if you have a Cricut or Silhouette. Even if you don’t have a cutting machine yet, scroll down toward the end of the post and I’ll let you know how to get started with cutout templates you can use to cut by hand!
Making leather earrings with SVG files on your Cricut or Silhouette is easy, fun and PROFITABLE!
I’ve had a cutting machine since 2011 when Silhouette first came out. Being a graphic designer, I loved the fact that I could design my own files. At the time, Cricut only cut pre-designed shapes and that just wasn’t enough for my creative mind! At first, I used my cutting machine to make decor and stencils for painting furniture (as seen here!)
But once I made my first pair of leather earrings, I was hooked! I was so excited to finally be able to wear large statement earrings because most large earrings were just too heavy for my ears! I designed a few templates, made myself WAY TOO MANY earrings, so I decided to start selling them in the same space I was selling my furniture and decor. As I designed more and more templates, I realized I wanted to offer them for sale so others could do the same thing I was doing!
Selling Leather Earrings
I sell earrings for $12-18 per pair. The best places to sell them are local boutiques, vendor shows or online.
– Local Boutiques –
If you have nice shops close by, make some earrings and take them in! Ask if you can have a small display at their register. Different store owners will have their own way of dealing with this type of setup. You may be asked to pay rent and a transaction fee, or no rent but a percentage of the sale (usually 40-50%) Some store owners may only want you to sell in their store within a certain mile radius. You have to weigh all the parameters and figure out if that works for you.
– Vendor Shows –
The great thing about vendor shows, or craft fairs, is they usually don’t cost very much (I don’t pay over $50 for a day) and if you choose the right ones, customer traffic is pretty much guaranteed! People love a full display of fun, cheerful jewelry that doesn’t cost too much! Setup and take down can be tiring but the flexibility makes it worth it. Keep an eye out for craft shows organized by schools, churches and other organizations in your area!
– Online –
There are several ways to sell online – if you have the knowledge to add a shop to your website, open your own online store with Shopify or WooCommerce. Other places to sell are Etsy, Instagram, Facebook Marketplace, Amazon Handmade. A comprehensive list has been put together here, an article I found while researching online options. I choose to sell on Etsy because I’ve been with them since they started and even with their ups and downs and growing pains, I still believe they are the best overall community for creative makers. When I have the time I will be looking into what Facebook and Amazon have to offer.
What If I Don’t Have a Cutting Machine?

If you don’t have a cutting machine yet, there’s still an easy way for you to get started! I sell cutout templates of most of my designs. They are made from extra heavy card stock and will be mailed to you. You will need a pair of nice sharp scissors (invest in something heavy duty like the ones I use, found here) along with your leather and jewelry making supplies. Find my template files on Etsy here.
